Bed Frames and Mattress Support Hub
The base under a mattress affects comfort, height, airflow and warranty compliance. Check it before assuming the mattress has failed.
Platform frames
A platform can support a mattress directly when the deck or slats meet the manufacturer’s requirements. Check maximum slat spacing, center rails and the number of floor legs. Wide gaps allow foam to bow between slats.
Foundations and box springs
Modern foundations are often rigid; traditional box springs flex. Some new mattresses require a non-flexing base, so the familiar term “box spring” can be misleading. Confirm the exact type permitted.
Adjustable bases
Not every mattress is designed to bend repeatedly. Verify compatibility, weight limits and whether the return policy changes when an adjustable base is bundled with the bed.
Height and access
Add frame, foundation and mattress thickness to find the final height. A high setup may be awkward for shorter sleepers, while a very low bed can be difficult for someone with limited mobility. Leave enough clearance for drawers and cleaning.
