New Mattress Buyer Reading List
Buying a mattress is easier when you read in the right order. These five topics turn an open-ended search into a decision.
1. Your sleep profile
List primary position, body weight range, temperature preference, sharing needs and the weakness of the current bed. This becomes your decision brief.
2. Construction and feel
Learn the broad differences among foam, spring, hybrid and latex designs. Then look beyond the category name to layer thickness, firmness options and edge construction.
3. Room and delivery fit
Measure the mattress footprint, finished bed height, doorway and stair turns. Decide whether a boxed mattress, split foundation or in-home setup is necessary.
4. Trial, return and warranty
A trial is useful only if you can follow its rules. Check minimum nights, condition requirements, fees and who arranges removal. Warranty coverage is different from comfort returns.
5. Total budget
Include frame changes, protector, sheets for a new depth or size, removal of the old bed and delivery charges. Compare the complete setup rather than the headline mattress price.
